Utilizing GZip with WordPress, Finally a Fast Blog…
The first half of this artiÂcle will be taken directly from our preÂviÂous post, as the need for a sinÂgle default php.ini is necÂesÂsary to conÂfigÂure gzip. If readÂing our Magento post is what brought you to the site, and you’ve already conÂfigÂured your default php.ini, than skip to the .htacÂcess porÂtion of the post. OthÂerÂwise, were off…
The Correct Way To Set Up gzip with Magento
We wrote this artiÂcle in response to postÂings offerÂing advice to users of Magento, an open source ecomÂmerce sysÂtem. The advice is being given with good intenÂtions, and the intent is only to assist their felÂlow Magento users. But the advice being give may actuÂally have the potenÂtial cause harm to the users site, or at the least a good deal of down time. The advice being offered is to help speed up Magento by enabling a server side caching sysÂtem called gzip. What peoÂple don’t realÂize is that their being told to enable two sepÂaÂrate caching sysÂtems. These two sysÂtems tend not to play well together, and could cause harm to your install. While most peoÂple see posÂiÂtive results, there are a rare few seeÂing server side errors, dataÂbase errors, and are stumped as to why.
MySQL Server on Windows Vista x64 Setup Guide, An Install That Works!!!

After hours of beatÂing our heads against a wall, we’ve finally come up with a solid MySQL install guide. It wasn’t easy, but it’s someÂthing we needed, and obviÂously someÂthing our felÂlow develÂopÂers needed. We spent hours readÂing through endÂless threads with errors such as;
CanÂnot CreÂate WinÂdows SerÂvice for MySQL. Error:0,
Vista x64 could not start the serÂvice mysql,
WinÂdows could not start the mysql serÂvice on local comÂputer error 1067,
Can’t create/write to file,
Can’t conÂnect to [local] MySQL server,
Table ‘tbl_name’ doesn’t exist,
Yet even after readÂing through what seemed like hunÂdreds of cries for help, and just as many supÂposed fixes, we were still no closer to resolvÂing this issue. So after comÂing to the realÂizaÂtion that there was litÂtle help to be had online, we just attacked our install, and dealt with the issues one by one. After repeated failed installs, and botched setups, we were able to get MySQL loaded propÂerly. The setup instrucÂtions you see below were repeatÂable on 4 difÂferÂent machines, when folÂlowed propÂerly. If you run into an issue, please let us know. Good luck with your setup.
